What a Day!!!
Today started out like any other day this week - time to get up and not wanting to
Then there was the weather - overcast, rainy, cold and now it is sunny, very windy and still cold…......
Today I took High School girl to her final interview for her co-op job at school. Yes, she did indeed get the job. (Yes, we are proud of her!!) Back when I was in High School and kids did co-op jobs they got the last half of the school day off to go to work; and it counted for credit. The school helped secure the positions that would go along with the credit that you were working on and there was a counselor type person who handled everything. In HS girl’s school the kids can sign up for the co-op deal and it is a pass/fail class. They have to be in school all day, can’t leave early to work, and they have to go apply everywhere on their own - the school does nothing for them. If they don’t start turning in paystubs to the school as proof of their employment then their parents get the lovely note that we received - Your child is in danger of failing. Once she gets the paystubs for the job and meets the required number of hours each month than that will go away. What a crock of crap!!! Of course it gives her some special designation on her diploma - but to me I feel like the school is doing nothing. (As usual in my humble opinion)
When I took her to her interview a young man had taken it upon himself to hit the post and box that control the signal with his car, rendering them unusable and the intersection near the store very unsafe. (Have you ever seen a light be red, yellow and green all at the same time??) There was one lone police car and policeman there - who was doing nothing to direct traffic, except when the tow truck showed up. No one here goes along with “the light is not working so we should be doing an all way stop and taking turns” - no, they kept to their selfish me-first, I’m more important than you attitude. I was waiting for another crash to happen as that is a very busy stretch of road and busy intersection.
On the way home we encountered a bit of a back-up behind the school bus and some chump at the local 7-11 decided that he needed to cut out in front of me (I was on the opposite side of the road) rather than wait for traffic to clear. I just nosed around him anyway and kept on going. The car behind me tried to do the same but he forced that fellow to go to the shoulder so he could be on his way instead of waiting his turn.
I remember a book called - All I Needed to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten - I believe it had a chapter in there about learning to take turns; seems to me that the people here have either never attended a functional kindergarten or else the ones here do not teach the discipline of taking turns.
High points of the day - HS Girl getting her first REAL job and also going up in class rank (something colleges look at). YEAH HS GIRL!!!!!!!!!
